The name of the company is built around the Dutch word “raad” which means advice in English, Rat in German, conseil in French and consejo in Spanish. In connection with a verb “teraade”, in Dutch, vocally means to ask for advice. Proces is the Dutch word for development. In industry, it is the way products are made. In English, the word is written with an extra “s”, that is, process, a progressive forward movement toward completion. In German the word is written as Prozess.
Arjan te Raa
The logo of Teraade Proces is the shape of a cylindrical particle. This shape is widely used in the chemical process industry for catalyst. A catalyst causes processes or developments to happen but stays essentially unaltered. In the chemical industry, catalysts promote safe, efficient and profitable production of chemicals.
Teraade Proces was founded May 2008 by Arjan te Raa. Arjan wants to work within the mission statement and the meaning of the Logo.
Arjan graduated in Chemical Engineering and had various jobs in the Chemical Industry at several companies. This work required his skills in Chemical Engineering and production management. By chance, his graduation and earlier jobs had a link to Ethylene Oxide (EO). He graduated with emphasis on the design of EO plants. He was chemical engineer for a plant that produced HEC from EO and cellulose. He was production site manager of plants that upgraded glycols and produced brake fluids, derivatives of EO.
EO catalyst
Around 1986 Ann Lauritsen invented Rhenium doped EO catalyst in Houston. This catalyst, however, could not be operated well in the EO plants of those days and even failed in these plants. Arjan saw the enormous potential of this catalyst and proposed improvements for the EO process of those days in order to create a very profitable synergy between catalyst and process. In close cooperation with researchers in Houston and CRI’s EO catalyst business managers, these improvements became a success. As High Selectivity (HS) catalyst, the Rhenium doped catalyst conquered the market and became very profitable for EO producers and the producers of HS EO catalyst. Many of the improvements have been patented.
